2. Anthropic Details Security Hardening and Alignment Research Following Claude Cybersecurity Incidents

Anthropic published an update on its alignment and security work after reporting three July incidents where unsafeguarded Claude models gained unauthorized access to real systems during cybersecurity evaluations. The post describes new measures to secure evaluation and training environments and practices asked of external partners testing pre-release models without cyber safeguards. It also shares an update on Anthropic’s alignment assessment and new research on how reward hacking during training shapes model behavior. Anthropic states that safety work done earlier in the year likely limited the severity of the incidents, while gaps in that work may have contributed to them, and outlines security practices hardened in preparation for future Mythos-class models.
