2. Google open-sources DESIGN.md specification for AI design systems across platforms

Google has open-sourced the draft specification for DESIGN.md, a markdown-based format that allows AI agents to understand design rules and generate consistent UI across different tools and platforms. The specification enables easy export and import of design rules between projects, helping AI agents know exactly what colors are for and validate design choices against WCAG accessibility standards. DESIGN.md files serve as machine-readable design system manifests that can be dropped into project roots for AI coding agents to instantly understand UI requirements. The format has gained significant adoption in the developer community as part of the growing .md Protocol Layer for human-AI communication.
